Meet the management team
Baudouin has been Managing Partner of Interel in Belgium since 2007. He advises clients in a variety of industries on public affairs, corporate communications and crisis communications assignments.
Before joining Interel, Baudouin was the CEO of the Belgian retailers’ federation Comeos and prior to that, chief economist of the Federation of Entreprises in Belgium (FEB). Earlier in his career, Baudouin held management responsibilities with credit insurer Euler-Hermes and Philips.
He started his career at the National Bank of Belgium. He is a professor of strategic communications at the University of Louvain, and has been member of the board of BEL20 listed companies Bekaert and Cofinimmo.
Baudouin holds a MA in Economics and a degree in Philosophy, both from the University of Leuven, as well as a PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He is fluent in English, French and Dutch.
Karel Joos has been a Partner, based in Interel’s Brussels office, since 2008. He is a public affairs specialist with particular expertise in corporate communications and crisis communications. He also leads Interel’s work across geographies in the transport and infrastructure sector.
Before joining Interel, he was the director of the cabinet of the Belgian minister for public sector enterprises where he supervised policy-making at the Belgian railways, the Belgian Post and telecommunications operator Belgacom.
Prior to that, he worked as an advisor to the Minister-President of the Flemish Government covering a range of issues including public works, mobility, public-private partnerships (PPP) and industrial economics. He started his career as an officer in the Belgian armed forces, and then upon leaving the army worked as a strategy consultant dealing mainly with transport policy.
Karel is the author of Lobbyen, the first textbook on corporate public affairs in the Benelux. He is a publicly-acknowledged expert in PPP and is a member of the United Nations Team of PPP Specialists. He also has co-authored four books on transportation economics.
Karel is a graduate of the Royal Military Academy; he holds a MSc in Construction Engineering from the University College Ghent and a MA in Applied Economics from the University of Antwerp. He is fluent in Dutch, English and French and conversational in German.
